IC 398 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 164 million light years from the Milky Way . It is an estimated 164 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 65,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1720 and NGC 1726 .
The object was discovered by Frank Muller on December 13, 1887 .
