IC 399 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 174 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 1740 , NGC 1741 , NGC 1742 , NGC 1753 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on February 25, 1892 by the Austrian Rudolf Spitaler .
