International Congress of Americanists

The International Congress of Americanists (ICA) ( Spanish: Congreso Internacional de Americanistas ) is a multidisciplinary scientific conference that has been held regularly in Europe or America since 1875 . The term American Studies refers to the entire American continent . The aim of the founding event by the Paris Société Américaine de France on August 25, 1874 was "to contribute to the development of ethnographic , linguistic and historical studies of the two Americas, especially for the time before Columbus ".

The disciplines and topics represented at the congress are anthropology , archeology , art , education , economics , geography , history , human rights , law , philosophy , linguistics , sociology and urban research .

The foundation stone for the Latin America information network REDIAL was laid at the 1988 congress in Amsterdam .

The 53rd International Congress of Americanists took place in Mexico City from July 19 to 24, 2009 and was organized by the Universidad Iberoamericana . The 54th International Congress of Americanists took place in Vienna from July 15 to 20, 2012 and was organized by the University of Vienna , the Austrian Latin America Institute and the Vienna Museum of Ethnology .
