Origin and meaning
Jörg is a German variant of Georg and therefore means something like ' farmer , farmer ' like him. The first name was in 15./16. Very popular in the 19th century, and Martin Luther also used Junker Jörg as a pseudonym when he was hiding in the Wartburg .

The name Jörg quickly gained popularity in Germany in the early thirties. He was among the top ten most given boy names a couple of times in the 1960s. Its popularity fell sharply from the beginning of the eighties.
