The Jaguar XK is a sports car model from the car manufacturer Jaguar .

XK engine models (1948-1961)

In 1948 Jaguar presented a new roadster called the XK 120 at the London Motor Show . "XK" stood for the in-line six-cylinder DOHC engine ( XK6 ) , which was built until 1992, and "120" for the maximum speed in miles per hour that could be achieved with it. The first sports car was delivered on July 21, 1949. The open two-seater ( OTS = Open Two Seater) was accompanied by a coupé with a fixed roof ( FHC = Fixed Head Coupe) in March 1951 and a coupé with a retractable fabric roof ( DHC = Drop Head Coupe) in April 1953 . By autumn 1954, 12,078 XK 120s (7,631 OTS, 2,678 FHC and 1,769 DHC) were built.

In October 1954, the successor to the XK 140 with a slightly revised body was presented at the London Motor Show . While the XK 120 had two dainty bumpers at the front and two bumper horns at the rear, the XK 140 got a massive, continuous bumper at the front and two massive bumpers at the rear. The grille had fewer but thicker ribs. FHC and DHC got two jump seats behind the seats and thus became a 2 + 2 seater. By early 1957, 8,884 XK 140s had been built.

From May 1957, extensively revised cars were offered as the XK 150 . A one-piece panoramic windshield replaced the two-piece windshield. The body itself had grown in all directions and now offered a continuous bumper at the rear. For the first time a Jaguar hood ornament could be ordered for an additional charge. By the end of production, 9,395 copies had been built.

Between 1949 and 1961, a total of 30,357 XKs were built, which were optionally available with disc wheels and cladding of the rear wheel cutouts ( spats ) or with spoked wheels.

Revived designation (1996-2014)

In 1996 Jaguar, as part of the Ford group, followed up on the glorious model name, but not on the famous XK engine series: The sports car, known internally as Jaguar X100 , was offered as a coupé and convertible with an eight-cylinder engine as the XK8 or in the supercharged variant as the XKR . By 2005 90,064 (90,616 according to other sources) units were produced by him, which made him the Jaguar brand's best-selling sports model up to that point. Its successor, known as the X150 and understood by Jaguar as Gran Turismo, did not achieve these sales figures in its production time until 2014.

Special model XKR Cabriolet Celebration (2005)

On January 13, 2005, Jaguar presented a “Final Edition” limited to 50 pieces worldwide by letter to shareholders: The XKR Cabriolet Celebration. The vehicle could be ordered in seven exterior colors (Jaguar Racing Green, Satin Silver, Bay Blue, Copper Black, Frost Blue, Quarz, Midnight) and, for technical reasons, was made in block production from March to May 2005 with a metallic paint, 20 '' BBS light alloy rims in the "Perseus" design, red wheel hub cover with growler, red brake calipers with internally ventilated and perforated brake discs, heated windscreen, automatically folding exterior mirrors, Park Distance Control, dark-tinted rear lights, door sill strips with checkered flag motif, which is supposed to remind of Le Mans racing successes, leather -Sports seats in "Soft Grain", 3 contrasting stitching, front seat heating, memory package, sports leather steering wheel and Momo gear selector knob made of leather, "Carbon Fiber" or "Elm wood" panels, R-Performance aluminum interior, floor mats in leather, cup holders , Navigation system, premium sound system and the Bluetooth interface provided for the successor and optionally in the leather color Ivory, with adaptive speed control and interior monitoring including glass breakage sensor and integrated garage door opener. There was no brochure or other advertising. Dealers offered good customers a vehicle and received a 5-page PDF brochure with a few photos on January 14, 2005. So only those who made quick decisions had a chance. Customers who wanted to get a more precise impression of the color combinations and, for example, the carbon interior or the rims, offered Jaguar (at their own expense and only after a binding order) a factory visit, where the future owner could put together his car. The price of 95,500 EUR meant a 70% discount on the included extras.
