Jakob Friedrich von Holtzendorff (born April 7, 1741 in Tornow , † August 3, 1820 in Opole ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and chief of the 9 Cuirassier Regiment .

Life

His parents were the Prussian captain a. D. and heir to Tornow Jakob von Holtzendorff (1706–1748) and his wife Sophie Dorothea, née von Bomsdorff .

Military career

Holtzendorff joined the Gensdarmes regiment in 1756 as a standard squire . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles near Lobositz , Roßbach , Leuthen , Zorndorf , Hochkirch , Liegnitz , Torgau and took part in the sieges of Prague , Schweidnitz and Olomouc . During that time he became a cornet on January 12, 1757 and a lieutenant on January 13, 1759 .

After the war, on June 26, 1775, he became a staff commander and on February 6, he became a cavalry officer and company commander . As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . Then Holtzendorff became major on May 26, 1780 and commander of the Gensdarmes regiment on November 3, 1788. On May 25, 1789 he rose to lieutenant colonel and on September 22, 1790 to colonel . Holtzendorff was involved in the reformulation of the cavalry regulations, for which he received 500 thalers on April 1, 1792. At the review on May 23, 1792 he was also awarded the Pour le Mérite order . On June 12, 1793, he succeeded General Prittwitz as inspector ad interim of the cavalry with a bonus of 500 thalers. On November 26, 1793 he handed the inspection over to General Elsner . On April 24, 1794, Holtzendorff received the inspection again, as General Elsner was transferred to southern Poland. He took part in the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 and was appointed major general on January 17, 1795 , but his health was already bad.

On January 23, 1797 he was appointed chief of the cuirassier regiment "von Manstein" . On May 20, 1802 he was promoted to lieutenant general with a patent from May 23, 1802. In addition, he received the Great Red Eagle Order at the revue on August 24, 1804 . On the eve of the Fourth Coalition War on October 3, 1805, he was given command of the County of Glatz . When war broke out in 1806, Holtzendorff was wounded in the battle of Jena , escaped to Magdeburg , but was taken prisoner when the fortress surrendered on November 8, 1806. From August 10, 1807 he received only half his salary , on December 1, 1814 he received his resignation with a pension . He died on August 3rd, 1820 in Opole.

Holtzendorff married Maria Josepha Naschinsky (also: Natschinski) (1736–1832) in Berlin on October 11, 1794. The following children were born from the marriage:

  • Eleonore Friederike (* 1776) ∞ Friedrich Ludwig von Folgersberg, lieutenant in the cuirassier regiment No. 9
  • August Wilhelm (1782–1849), took his leave in 1812 as a staff officer in the Gensdarmes regiment
  • Karl Friedrich (1783–1812), second lieutenant a. D.
  • Emilie Juliane Ulrike (* 1788) ⚭ Ernst Freiherr von Lyncker (1782–1846), major in the gendarmerie . They are the parents of the later major generals Lothar and Heinrich von Lyncker .
