The Jan von Werth is an excursion ship from KD Europe S.à rl, which is used on behalf of the Cologne-Düsseldorf Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt AG in the main season for round trips on the Lower Rhine near Cologne . From October to April it is only used if there is sufficient advance demand. In addition to the scheduled missions, the Jan von Werth is offered for rent for various occasions. She is the structurally identical sister ship of the Austria Princess , which is in use in Lower and Upper Austria for Brandner Schiffahrt GmbH .

history

The Jan von Werth at the Severinsbrücke in Cologne

The ship was built in 1992 by the De Hoop shipyard in Rijnwaarden under hull number 353 for the Dutch shipping company Witjes and christened Graaf van Bylant on July 10, 1992 in Tolkamer . The shipping company used the Graaf van Bylant on the Dutch Upper Rhine and on the Bijlands Canal in local traffic and as a party ship.

On March 4, 1993, the owner and the Cologne-Düsseldorfer signed a charter contract for three years, in which a right of first refusal for the new shipowner was agreed. Then the ship at Bodewes Binnenvaart was given a new coat of paint in Cologne-Düsseldorfer colors and was renamed in the name of the rider general Jan von Werth , who was revered in Cologne . The ship was put into service as part of a press presentation in the presence of the namesake, the Reiter Corps "Jan von Werth" . As of June 20, the shipping company used it as the second tour ship in Cologne alongside the Domspatz , and it could also be chartered for parties or other occasions. On May 1st, the Köln-Düsseldorfer made use of their option and bought the ship. In December 2008, the ship was sold to the wholly owned subsidiary KD Europe S.à rl in Luxembourg and then registered in Valletta , Malta in January 2009 . Since the ships of the Cologne-Düsseldorfer cannot reach their home port due to lack of seaworthiness, they are serviced in the Niehler Hafen in Cologne.

Furnishing

The Jan von Werth is a three-deck passenger ship with a saloon on the closed main deck. The usable area of the ship is around 300 m², the ceiling height is 2.20 m. With normal seating, the main deck, which is equipped with a bar, can accommodate up to 170 passengers. The partially covered open deck , into which the steering position has been integrated, is designed for 100 people. On the lower deck there is a staff cabin, cloakroom, toilet facilities, kitchen, a cooling and utility room as well as the drinking water, fuel and holding tank.

technology

The ship is powered by two 6-cylinder diesel engines from DAF type DKS 1160 M à 234 kW with TwinDisc MGX 5114 Quickshift gears and a shaft system. The bow thruster of Holland Roer has an electric drive with 80 kW. The Jan von Werth is 40.20 m long, 7.52 m wide and has a draft of 1.50 m. Since the end of July 2012, the port drive train has been equipped with a passively regenerating soot particle filter and an SCR catalytic converter.
