Jaroslav "Jarek" Janiš (born July 8, 1983 in Olomouc , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech automobile racing driver . He is the older brother of the racing driver Erik Janiš .

Career

Janiš began his motorsport career in karting in 1989 , in which he was active until 1998. In 1999 he switched to the single-seater racing and competed in the German Formula Ford . After he finished seventh overall in his first season, he was runner-up in 2000. He also took part in a number of races in various formula series in 2000. In 2001 he switched to the German Formula 3 championship and finished the season in 22nd place overall. In addition to individual starts in other racing series, he also made his Formula 3000 debut at the last race of the 2001 season . He represented his compatriot Tomáš Enge , who had switched to Formula 1 , at Nordic Racing . In the overall ranking he was 33.

In 2002 Janiš started for the Czech racing team ISR Racing in the Euro Formula 3000 . The racing driver won two races and finished the season in third place overall. In 2003 the Czech returned to the international Formula 3000 championship. He stayed with his team, which competed in Formula 3000 under the name Superfund ISR - Charouz . His best placings were two fourth places with which he finished eighth in the championship at the end of the season. Yannick Schroeder was his teammate in both seasons . In addition to his debut in the FIA GT Championship , he also completed Formula 1 test drives for the Jordan Grand Prix .

In 2004 Janiš switched to the DTM and competed in a Mercedes for the Rosberg team as a team-mate of Bernd Mayländer . The Czech remained without points. In the 2004 season he also completed a race in the Champ Car series, in the overall ranking of which he finished 24th. In 2005, the racing driver started in Formula Nippon . After three races without points, Janiš left the series and competed in the Italian Formula 3000, the successor to the Euro Formula 3000. Starting for Ma-Con Engineering , he was runner- up with a victory behind Luca Filippi . In 2006 he started in the first six races of the F3000 International Masters , the predecessor series of the international Formula Masters . Janiš finished all races on the podium and won four. At the end of the season, he finished third overall, although he had not completed more than half of the races. He also started for Zakspeed in the FIA ​​GT Championship and finished fifth in the GT1 class with two wins.

After completing four races for the Czech team in the A1 Grand Prix in winter 2006/2007 , in 2007 he only competed in individual races in the FIA ​​GT Championship, the Le Mans Series , the American Le Mans Series and the 24th Le Mans hour race . After a one-year break, he returned to active racing in 2009 and came fifth in the GT2 class at the Le Mans 24-hour race. He also started in the Le Mans Series and finished third in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo . In 2010 he competed again in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo.
