Jens Roth
Jens Roth (born January 24, 1988 in Bernkastel-Kues ) from Monzelfeld is a German former swimmer who is now active as a triathlete . He is Vice-European Cross-Triathlon Champion (2015) and five-time and reigning German Champion in Cross-Triathlon (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) and Cross-Duathlon (2017).
Career
The electrical engineer Jens Roth was active in swimming for about 15 years. At the German Swimming Championships 2007 in Berlin, he finished third behind the winner Thomas Lurz over 1500 m freestyle.
Triathlon since 2010
Roth started triathlon in 2010 and today he mainly competes in Olympic distance competitions: 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running. He has been trained by Marc Pschebizin since 2010 .
In Zell an der Mosel he contested his first competition and was able to celebrate a successful fourth place after swimming and cycling best times. A year later he won the title of Rhineland-Palatinate champion over the Olympic distance in Mussbach (Palatinate). In 2012 he was able to confirm this achievement and became German Champion of the AK20 in Düsseldorf.
He started for the RSG Montabaur club until 2014, with whom he was promoted to the First Triathlon Bundesliga in 2013. He was able to defend his title in Rhineland-Palatinate in Kaiserslautern in May and also secured the German amateur title in Düsseldorf in June.
Since his serious fall during the 2014 Bundesliga race in Buschhütten, Jens has joined the club where he lives, Tri Post Trier, and was involved in the team from the Moselle's promotion to the Bundesliga from the Rhineland-Palatinate League to the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga within four years.
Amateur world champion cross triathlon 2013
At the Cross-Triathlon World Championships in The Hague, the Netherlands, he was amateur world champion in July. With his finishing time after 1 km of swimming, 32 km of mountain bike and 9 km of cross-country run, it would have been fifth overall in the professional field.
Five-time German cross triathlon champion (2015 to 2019)
In July 2015 he became Vice European Champion and in August German Cross Triathlon Champion. In the 2016 season too, Jens Roth is largely concentrating on cross-triathlon and Xterra. On July 23, 2016, he defended the title of German champion in the elite class in the cross-triathlon in Zeulenroda, Thuringia. In 2016 he was promoted to the second Bundesliga with his current club Tri Post Trier . In March 2017, the then 29-year-old also became German cross-duathlon champion. In August of the same year, Roth won the title of German champion for the third time with fifth place at Xterra Germany in Saxony.
In 2018 he won the German championship title in cross triathlon for the fourth time in a row at his home race in Schalkenmehren in July. He is now the first athlete in the history of the German Triathlon Union (DTU) to win the title of German champion in the elite area four times in a row.
As part of the 2015 German Cross Duathlon Championship in Schleiden in the Eifel, he has long tried his hand at the Cross Duathlon to support his team from Trier in the team standings. In third place he reached the podium in front of local hero Mathias Frohn. In 2016 it was only enough for sixth place.
In 2017, the German Cross Duathlon Championships were held on his home track in Trier's Weishauswald and he also secured the German championship title here. In 2018 the title was awarded again in Kraichgau, with Jens Roth taking third place behind his team-mate Andreas Theobald. Again in Trier in 2019, it was "only" enough to take second place behind Jonas Hoffmann.
On August 17, 2019, Jens Roth secured his fifth German championship cross-triathlon in a row in Zittau, Saxony. He finished the race, which was held at the same time as the classification race of the Xterra world and European series, behind the French Arthur Serrieres in second place.
