Johan Hess

Johan Heß (born July 24, 1977 in Leipzig ) is a German theater director .

Life

Heß graduated from the Main-Taunus-Gymnasium in Hofheim am Taunus in 1996 and later studied German at the University of Leipzig until 2005 with the minor subjects theater studies and computer science .

During his studies he was from 1999 in Leipzig in the independent scene, founded the theater company theater construction site where he worked as a director and writer. In 2004 he was invited to the Stückemarkt at the Berlin Theatertreffen with his play Rosa, wie ein Bit rotten . In 2010 he received the Heidelberger Stückemarkt sponsorship award for his play Die Straße . From 2006 he worked as an assistant director at the Staatstheater Nürnberg and from 2007 to 2010 at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg . There he also directed the series “Loudspeakers - Theater and Jazz” from 2011-2013 and in 2012 the improvisation series “TheaterSlam”. His work with the Hamburger Theaterjugendclub has been nominated several times.

Since 2010 he has worked as a freelance director and lecturer, the latter at the Free Drama School Hamburg and the School for Drama Hamburg , among others . His production of Over the Border It's Just One Step by Michael Müller won the 2011 KinderStückePreis of the Mülheimer Theatertage .

In 2015, he worked with Karin Henkel and Stephanie Carp at the Schauspielhaus Zürich on the production of "The Ten Commandments" ( John von Düffel based on the film cycle "Dekalog" by Krzysztof Kieślowski and Krzysztof Piesiewicz) as an employee for direction and dramaturgy .
