Johannes Neeb

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Baptist Joseph Neeb (born September 1, 1767 in Steinheim ; † June 13, 1843 in the Steinheimer Hof near Eltville ) was a professor of philosophy and a Hessian politician and a former member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . As to the question of what the nickname was, the sources contradict each other. The Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie, Ruppel / Groß and Lengemann name Joseph as their first name. Johannes mentions a number of regional websites. This second view is also supported by the naming of the street and the name of the author in the digital version of his work "Reasons against the possibility of a general spread of unbelief".

family

Neeb was the son of the stocking weaver Johann Baptist Neeb and his wife Maria Theresia nee Schreck. Neeb, who was a Catholic denomination, married Maria Anna nee Drach († 1809, from Kleinwallstadt). In his second marriage he married Sophie, born Balbier († 1810) in 1809, the daughter of the pastor in Wöllstein. His third wife, Katharina nee Axt (1791–1820), whom he married in 1815, died a few years after the wedding.

education and profession

Neeb studied philosophy and theology at the University of Mainz . In 1791 he completed his studies with a doctorate and became a teacher at the Aschaffenburg high school . In 1791 he became professor of philosophy at the University of Bonn and in 1797 at the central school in Mainz. From 1803 he lived as a landowner in Nieder-Saulheim .

politics

Neeb was mayor in Nieder- Saulheim . In the 1st and 2nd electoral periods (1820-1824) he was a member of the second chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. In the state estates he represented the electoral district Rheinhessen 3 / Wöllstein . In the 5th electoral term (1832-1833) he was re-elected, this time in the constituency Rheinhessen 4 / Wörrstadt.

Together with Clemens Lauteren and Johann Maria Kertell , he emerged as a representative of the Catholic cause in the estates.
