John Eldredge

John Eldredge (born August 30, 1904 in San Francisco , California , † September 23, 1961 in Laguna Beach , California) was an American actor.

life and work

John Eldredge was the son of a clergyman and younger brother of actor George Eldredge .

He started his career as a stage actor. He started at Vaudeville . From 1928 he was seen on Broadway , mostly at the Civic Repertory Theater .

From 1934 he had a contract with Warner Bros. His first film was The Man With Two Faces in the same year . As a result he played mostly weaklings and petty criminals; one of the rare exceptions was his role in Mervyn LeRoy's Oil for the Lamps of China . In addition to LeRoy, for whom he was also involved in Flowers in Dust , he played under directors such as Jack Arnold ( Women in the Night ), Frank Borzage ( Flirtation Walk ), William Dieterle ( Dr. Socrates ), Stanley Donen ( Fearless Fagan ), Edward Dmytryk ( Television Spy , Meeting Point Hong Kong ), WS Van Dyke ( Between Hate and Love ), Norman Foster ( Fair Warning ), Paul Henreid ( Cruel Judges ), Andrew V. McLaglen ( Freckles ), Charles Vidor ( Blind Alley ), Raoul Walsh ( decision in the Sierra ) or Robert Wise ( Hell is inside me ). He was also featured in four films about the Bowery Boys in the series ( Live Wires , Angels' Alley , Jinx Money and No Holds Barred ).

From the early 1950s, when his career was already on the decline, he increasingly appeared in television series. These included Superman - Savior in Need , I Love Lucy , Perry Mason , 77 Sunset Strip , Bonanza , Twilight Zone and Mr. Ed . In 1954 he played Harry Archer, the father of the main character, in all 39 episodes of the Meet Corliss Archer series .

John Eldredge remained unmarried all his life. He died of a heart attack at the age of 57 .

It was dubbed by Siegfried Schürenberg , Peter Petersz , Ulf J. Söhmisch , Otto Czarski and Heinz Piper , among others .
