The Gushi culture ( Chinese  姑 師 文化 , Pinyin Gūshī wénhuà also referred to as Jushi culture in Chinese  車 師 文化 , Pinyin Jūshī wénhuà ) existed from around 1000 BC. And was then defeated and assimilated by the Han Dynasty.

language

The members of the culture spoke the Tocharian language .

Culture

According to reports from their historical period, the members of the Gushi culture lived in tents in the area of today's city of Kumul , followed the grasses and bodies of water and had a considerable knowledge of agriculture. They owned cattle, horses, camels, sheep and goats and were trained with bow and arrow.

They were also known for harassing and robbing travelers heading north along the Silk Road.

Cannabis use

The Gushi culture was one of the first cultures to cultivate cannabis , one of the oldest finds of cannabis flowers and seeds comes from there.

A container filled exclusively with female, highly psychoactive cannabis flowers was discovered as part of the grave goods of a member of the culture who was buried about 2,700 years ago. The grave also contained bridles, archery equipment and a harp, which indicates the deceased's high social standing. Archaeologists therefore suspect that marijuana was used by members of the Gushi culture as part of their religious, medicinal or shamanic practice.
