Kuahuqiao
Kuahuqiao ( Chinese 跨 湖 桥 遗址 , Pinyin Kuàhúqiáo yízhǐ ) is an early Neolithic site of the Kuahuqiao culture (Kuahuqiao Wenhua 跨 湖 桥 文化). It was discovered in the early 1970s in Xianghu Village in the Xiaoshan District of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China , and covers an area of approximately 150,000 square meters, with the finds at a depth of 1 to 3 meters. The site is located in a hilly area covered by lakes and rivers, then as now. Excavations took place in 1990, 2000/2001 and 2002, each of which examined an area of 300 to 350 square meters.
The Kuahuqiao culture has a history of 7,000 to 8,000 years. The remains of the earliest dugout canoe in China, which was made from a pine trunk, are among the most important finds at the site . The remains are 5.6 meters long and 29 to 52 centimeters wide. The remains of the country's oldest arch also come from the Kuahuqiao site . They have a length of 1.21 meters, the material of the arch is oval and has a width of 3 to 3.3 centimeters and a thickness of 2 to 2.2 centimeters. The arch was made from the wood of the mulberry tree and wrapped in bark that had fallen off.
The ceramics found in Kuahuqiao are ceramics with sand , charcoal or shell inclusions. Many types of bowls and bowls were made using the bead technique, most of which had a round, rarely flat bottom. Few objects have a base and no three-legged vessels were found. The decorations were made by scratching various patterns into the clay.
The excavations have shown that the people's buildings were made of wood and that the village paths were paved with cobblestones . Rice was grown, collected, hunted and fished, domestic animals were kept and the production of primitive textiles is documented.
The Kuahuqiao site in Hangzhou has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (6-82) since 2006 .
