Justin Hoogma (born June 11, 1998 in Enschede , Netherlands ) is a Dutch football player . He is on loan from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to FC Utrecht .

Career

The son of the former professional soccer player Nico-Jan Hoogma grew up in Germany in Kaltenkirchen in Schleswig-Holstein until 2004 , while his father was under contract with Hamburger SV . He played in the youth of SC Kisdorf in Kisdorf, near Kaltenkirchen. After his father's return to the Netherlands, the family settled in Oldenzaal and Hoogma joined the Quick '20 youth team before moving to the joint youth academy of FC Twente and Heracles Almelo .

In 2015 Hoogma came into the professional game of Heracles Almelo and made his debut in the Eredivisie during the 2015/16 season . In the 2016/17 season he played all 34 games of the season for Almelo over 90 minutes, making him the youngest player to have succeeded in this in the Eredivisie.

In June 2017, the German Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim signed him ; he received a four-year contract. He is used in the second team of TSG in the Regionalliga Südwest . Hoogma made his debut for the first team on matchday 4 of the Europa League with the Turkish representative Başakşehir FK . TSG retired after the group stage. He made his league debut on September 29, 2018, the 6th match day of the 2018/19 season, in a 2-1 home defeat against RB Leipzig .

At the end of January 2019, Hoogma switched to the second division club FC St. Pauli on loan until the end of the 2018/19 season . At FC St. Pauli, Hoogma made 14 second division appearances (13 times from the start).

In preparation for the summer of 2019, the Dutchman initially returned to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, which his compatriot Alfred Schreuder had taken over as head coach. At the end of July, there was a loan move back home to first division club FC Utrecht for the 2019/20 season . From the start, Hoogma was in central defense together with captain Willem Janssen and only missed three competitive games until the season ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic . In the Eredivisie he finished 6th in the table with Utrecht, in the national cup the final was reached, which was canceled. After the regular Bundesliga season ended, TSG extended the defender's contract until June 2022 and the loan deal with the Dutch for another year.

National teams

Hoogma made four appearances for the Dutch U19 national team and four for the U20 . On November 10, 2017, Hoogma made his debut for the Dutch U21 national team in an 8-0 win in the European Championship qualifier against Andorra in Doetinchem .
