Leon Guwara (born June 28, 1996 in Cologne ) is a German football player who is under contract with FC Utrecht .

Career

The trained right central defender Guwara, whose father comes from Gambia , began his footballing career at the age of only four with SC Schwarz-Weiß Köln , before moving to the youth team of 1. FC Köln at the age of seven . There he went through the entire youth sector for eleven years. With the U-17 juniors he played in the U-17 Bundesliga West from 2012. For the 2013/14 season he came to the U-19 juniors and also played with them in the U-19 Bundesliga. In the summer of 2014, Guwara moved to Werder Bremen . He signed a three-year contract and played for Bremen's second team in the Regionalliga Nord from the 2014/15 season . He scored one goal in 25 games. After winning the league championship with the team and winning both promotion rounds, he has been playing in the third division since the 2015/16 season . In April 2016 he extended his contract there prematurely to 2019. On February 5, 2016, he played his first first division game in the Bundesliga team; in the 1: 5 defeat in Mönchengladbach he was used over the entire season.

In August 2016 he was awarded to league competitor SV Darmstadt 98 , where he made 17 appearances. For the 2017/18 season he was awarded for one year to the second division club 1. FC Kaiserslautern . With 1. FC Kaiserslautern he was relegated to the third division .

For the 2018/19 season, Guwara moved to the Dutch Eredivisie for FC Utrecht , where he received a contract with a term until June 30, 2021, which includes an option for another year.

National team

Guwara was nominated for the German U-16 national football team for the first time on May 23, 2012 and played a friendly game with the team. On November 6, 2012 he made his debut in the U-17 national team coached by Stefan Böger . Exactly two years and six games later, he moved to the U-19 national team coached by Marcus Sorg . In three games he stayed goalless. On October 7, 2015, he was used for 16 minutes in the friendly game of the German U-20 national team against Turkey. The team won the game 1-0. He made his debut in the U-21 national team on November 15, 2016 in the 1-0 defeat by Poland in Tychy .
