Career

Club career

Willem Janssen began his football career as a child at EWC'46 in Well an der Maas. From there he came to the youth training of the VVV-Venlo . In the 2004/05 season he made his debut in the Eerste Divisie when he came on for Van Loenhout on August 20, 2004 in the home game against Excelsior Rotterdam in the 73rd minute . Just two game days later he was in the starting line-up and two weeks later in the match at FC Zwolle he scored his first league goal as "Joker" to make it 2-2.

The 1.86-meter-tall midfield all-rounder advanced to become an important addition to VVV in his first season. In 27 league appearances he scored two goals. In the 2005/06 season he was able to prove his strength in the central midfield and soon won a regular place. With him VVV reached the relegation round three times, in 2007 the team achieved promotion.

At this point Janssen's move to Roda JC in Kerkrade was already clear. Here he found strong competitors with Marcel Meeuwis , Elbekay Bouchiba , Cheik Tioté, who had come from RSC Anderlecht , and Anouar Hadouir, who was signed by Willem II Tilburg , but was able to play in the regular team of coach Raymond Atteveld during the season and was U-21 -National players . In the following season , the team fought against relegation and was only able to hold the class in the relegation. According to Janssen, his best time at Roda JC had been since the winter break of the 2009/10 season , after which the Roda team went through an overall increase in performance and settled in the secured midfield for the next two seasons.

Janssen describes himself as a “team player” who is looking for combinations and has the ability to run. One of his qualities is that he can quickly advance into the free space behind the opposing defense and thus also score goals himself.

In February 2011 it was announced that he was moving to FC Twente in Enschede for the 2011/12 season, where he signed a four-year contract. On June 20, 2011 he took part in the Tukkers training for the first time . After two years, he was loaned to FC Utrecht in the summer of 2013 .

With Jong Oranje Janssen took part like his Ivorian teammate Sekou Cissé alongside Ruud Vormer , Leroy George and the later senior international Eljero Elia in the 2008 tournament of Toulon , in which the Netherlands finished fifth.
