After the team was no longer able to convince in terms of sport and occupied the rear places of the CHL in the regular season for three years in a row, those responsible initially stopped playing in 1972. Due to the opening of the newly built Kemper Arena , the team returned for the 1976/77 season as the St. Louis Blues farm team from the National Hockey League to the CHL and immediately won their championship title, the Adams Cup, in the playoffs . Then the Detroit Red Wings from the NHL settled their Kansas City Red Wings farm team in the city and the Kansas City Blues finally stopped playing.
