The canton Heringen was an administrative unit in the Hersfeld district of the Werra department in the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia . The main town of the canton and seat of the justice of the peace was the then market town and today's city of Heringen in today's district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg in Northern Hesse .
The canton comprised a town and 30 villages, hamlets and individual farms, had 4,204 inhabitants and an area of 2.22 square miles .
The following places belonged to the canton:
- Herring, with the farm Fülleroda or Füllerode
- Creutzburg with Philippsthal
- Oberzella with Unterzella and the Thalhausen farm
- Lengers with Harnrode , Heiligenroda , Schwenge and Niederndorf
- Vitzeroda with Leimbach and Gasteroda
- Dippach , Gospenroda with Rienau , Auenheim and Abteroda
- Frauensee with Albertshof and Weißendiez
- Dachsgrube, Hetzeberg , Josthof , Knottenhof , Lindigshof , Rohnhöfe , Schergeshof and jumping
