Karl Christian August von Pressentin (born February 27, 1820 in Güstrow , † January 10, 1905 in Schwerin ) was a Prussian major general of the infantry .

Life

Karl Christian August came from the old Mecklenburg noble family von Pressentin . He was the middle son of Colonel and Commander of Wismar Bernhard Georg Bogislav von Pressentin (born September 17, 1777 in Horst; † November 26, 1854 in Wismar) and his wife Elisabeth Friederike Auguste, born von Lützow (born August 6, 1796 in Eickhof ; † April 17, 1845 in Wismar). Karl Christian August's younger brother was later major general Bernhard Friedrich Otto von Pressentin (1824–1895).

Military career

Pressentin visited the page institute in Schwerin and joined the Mecklenburg hunter battalion as a hunter on January 1, 1837 . In 1840 he was promoted to Second Lieutenant in the Grenadier Guard Battalion. From January 1 to March 31, 1848, he was commanded as an orderly officer to the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin Friedrich Franz II. After being transferred to the 4th Musketeer Battalion in 1857 and to the 2nd Musketeer Battalion in 1861, he was promoted to major on July 4, 1863 . From March 25, 1866 Pressentin was in command of the III. Battalion of the Grenadier Guard Regiment and took part in the German War in the battle near Seybothenreuth .

In 1867 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and came on October 18, 1868 as lieutenant colonel with his patent and as commander of the III. Battalion Grenadier Regiment No. 89 in the Association of the Prussian Army . This was followed on February 16, 1869 by his appointment as commander of the 1st Battalion in the infantry regiment "Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia" (2nd Magdeburg) No. 27 . On July 14, 1870 he was appointed commander of this regiment and in the same month he was promoted to colonel . In the war against France , Pressentin took part in the Battle of Beaumont in 1870/71 . Pressentin led the musketeers to storm the Mont de Brune against the enemy guns. He also took part in the battle of Sedan , the sieges of Toul and Paris and the battle at Épinay . His achievements were recognized by the award of both classes of the Iron Cross and the Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross 1st Class.

On July 18, 1874, a press officer was appointed to represent Major General Bernhard von Conta as commander of the 9th Infantry Brigade .
