Karl Heinrich von Broesigke (born August 12, 1790 in Weßlienen , † September 9, 1852 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general .

Karl was the son of the bailiff and lord on Weßlienen Jakob Heinrich von Broesigke and his wife Euphrosine Dorothea, née Westphal.

Military career

Broesigke joined in 1802 as Junker in the Dragoon Regiment "Hertzberg" the Prussian army a rose in June 1804 Ensign and took during the Fourth Coalition War at the Battle of Jena and the battle of Halle (Saale) part. During the fighting near Lübeck he was wounded and taken prisoner.

After the Peace of Tilsit , Broesigke became second lieutenant in the army on November 29, 1807 with half salary . During the campaign against Russia in 1812 he fought in the battles near Eckau , Bausk , Dahlenkirchen, Friedrichstadt and Poniewesh. For the battle at Eckau Broesigke received the order of the French Legion of Honor on August 12, 1812 and the order Pour le Mérite for Poniewesh and Bausk on September 25, 1812 . At the beginning of the Wars of Liberation , he was wounded in the Battle of Großgörschen by a shot in the right arm. He fought at the Katzbach and Leipzig , at Bernburg, Alsleben, Löwenberg, Reichenbach and Bischofswerda. Broesigke was awarded the Iron Cross II. After the war, he rose to Rittmeister and Squadron Chief on September 3, 1817, and on June 14, 1828, he was promoted to major regular staff officer . From February 15, 1830 to October 19, 1831 Broesigke was in command as leader of the 9th Landwehr Cavalry Regiment. On January 18, 1836 he was awarded the Order of St. John , before being commissioned to lead the 1st Dragoon Regiment on March 30, 1836 and appointed commander on January 14, 1837. With his promotion to lieutenant colonel , Broesigke became commander of the 1st Leib-Hussar Regiment on March 30, 1839 . In this position he received the Order of the Red Eagle III on September 8, 1840 . Class with ribbon and became a colonel on September 10, 1840 . For health reasons, he took his leave on July 18, 1843, conferring the character of major general, with an annual pension of 750 thalers.

He died on September 9, 1852 in Breslau and was buried on September 11, 1852 in the garrison cemetery there.

General von Krafft wrote in his assessment in 1838: “A correct, quick assessment of critical events, based on strict impartiality and service experience, is what distinguishes this regimental commander and has earned him general respect. He is not alone in trying to keep the regiment entrusted to him in good condition; it has also made progress in the field and outpost service. A highly respectable officer in all circumstances ”.
