Kassel Literature Prize
The Kassel Literature Prize for Grotesque Humor has been awarded annually by the Brückner-Kühner Foundation and the City of Kassel since 1985.
It is awarded to writers whose “work is characterized by the grotesque and comic on a high artistic level”. Until 1996, the prize was also awarded to literary scholars who focused on the comic as a research focus. Since then, the prize has been awarded exclusively to artists. It is endowed with 10,000 euros.
Since 2004 the foundation and the city have also regularly awarded a prize for comic literature for authors in an early phase of their work. It is endowed with 3,000 euros.
It is not possible to apply for yourself. The jury finds the award winners based on suggestions from publishers.
The award was donated by the writers Christine Brückner and Otto Heinrich Kühner .
