Katharina Dröge (born September 16, 1984 in Münster ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and economist . She has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2013 and, alongside Britta Haßelmann, has been chairwoman of her party's parliamentary group since December 2021 .

Life

Dröge grew up in Ladbergen and graduated from the Graf-Adolf-Gymnasium Tecklenburg in 2004. She then began studying economics at the University of Cologne with a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation , which she graduated with a diploma in 2010 . Until she moved into the Bundestag in 2013, she worked as a consultant in the Ministry of the Environment of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Katharina Dröge lives in Cologne, is of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination and is married.

Political career

Dröge has been a member of the Greens since 2000, before she was already active in the Green Youth . From 2002 to 2006 she was state chairwoman of the Green Youth of North Rhine-Westphalia . From 2009 to 2014 she was chairwoman of the district association of the Greens in Cologne. She ran for the 2013 federal election in the Cologne III constituency and entered the 18th German Bundestag via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia . During this legislative period, Dröge was the spokesperson for competition policy for the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group and chairwoman of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy .

During the negotiations on the Transatlantic Free Trade Agreement (TTIP) , she called for the clause on investment protection agreements to be deleted from the draft treaty.

From January 2018 she was one of four parliamentary directors of the Green parliamentary group in the 19th German Bundestag and was a member of the parliamentary group executive committee . She was still spokeswoman for the Greens in the Bundestag for competition and trade policy and from October 2019 spokeswoman for economic policy. She was also a full member of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy . In addition, Dröge was a deputy member of the finance committee . Dröge is a member of the general assembly of the Heinrich Böll Foundation.

In the federal election in 2021 , she again entered the Bundestag via the state list. On December 7, 2021, she was elected one of two chairmen of her parliamentary group.
