Kevin Walker (born August 3, 1989 in Örebro ) is a Swedish football player and musician of Irish descent. The midfielder , who went through several Swedish youth selections, is the son of coach Patrick Walker and brother of Robert Walker .

Career

Young players and years of traveling in the first and second leagues

Walker started playing soccer at Varberg's BoIS . In 1994 he moved to the youth team at Kalmar FF before moving to the youth department at Örebro SK in 1998 . In 2001 he joined GIF Sundsvall but returned to Örebro SK in 2005. At the same time he played his way into the youth teams of the Swedish Football Association .

For Örebro SK Walker made his debut in 2006 in the Superettan and came to two short appearances as a substitute. At the end of the season he rose with the club to the Allsvenskan . By August of the following year, played four times for the club in the Swedish first division. On August 31, 2007 he moved within the Swedish top division to AIK . Initially, he was mainly used by the third-rate partner Väsby United , with whom he was promoted to the Superettan at the end of 2007. For AIK, he also played two appearances as a substitute on the last two match days of the 2007 season .

In 2008, Walker began playing at Väsby United and ran for the team three times in the second division. From the summer of that year, Walker was a member of AIK's first division squad and initially came back as a substitute. He made his debut in the starting line-up in the 0-0 draw against IFK Göteborg in September and was able to look back on twelve appearances at the end of the season. He was then appointed to the Swedish U-21 team at the beginning of 2009 , but was not used in two duels against the Belgian junior national team. During his stay in Belgium, he contracted a groin infection, which forced him to take a break at the beginning of the 2009 season . In the summer he briefly returned to team training as part of his rehabilitation training before the inflammation broke out again. He was therefore out the entire season and could therefore not contribute to winning the double of championship and cup victory.

In the first half of the 2010 premier league season , Walker played four games for AIK. At the same time he ran for the farm team Väsby United, for which he scored two goals in the Superettan . At the end of August, he signed a loan contract with Assyriska Föreningen that was valid until the end of the year . At the side of Magnus Bahne , Stefan Batan and Göran Marklund , he was supposed to support the team supervised by the former AIK coach Rikard Norling in the promotion battle, but as fourth in the table the club missed the return to the Allsvenskan. After the loan period expired, he returned to AIK, where he was part of the squad as a supplementary player and was occasionally used as a substitute by coach Andreas Alm until August 2011 .

Establishment as a regular player in Swedish professional football

On the last day of the summer transfer period on August 31, 2011, Walker finally left AIK again on loan and joined the second division club GIF Sundsvall , with whom he rose to the Allsvenskan at the end of the season. As a regular player with three goals and five assists, he convinced those responsible there, after the end of the season he moved permanently to the club from Sundsvall.

At GIF Sundsvall, Walker was a regular player even after the permanent commitment, at the end of the 2012 season he only occupied the relegation place with the team of the promoted team at the side of Simon Helg , Stefan Ålander , Emil Forsberg and Oscar Berglund . In the games against Halmstads BK he was in the starting line-up, after a 3-0 defeat in the first leg and a 4-3 return win, he was relegated with the club directly. In the second division he placed himself with the team on the relegation place, again it came to a clash with Halmstads BK. Once again, Walker's side lost out after a 1-1 draw and a 2-1 defeat. In the second division season of 2014 , he did not miss a minute of the game, and he also contributed with five goals this season to reach the second place in the table associated with the resurgence.

Walker left GIF Sundsvall after three and a half seasons despite the successful promotion and joined the Stockholm first division club Djurgårdens IF in early 2015 . There he signed a three-year contract valid until the end of 2017 and was given the number "8" on his back.

Music career

Walker took part in the casting of the Swedish show Idol in 2013 and later found himself in the final alongside his colleague Elin Bergman, which he won with his song Belong . The win is a record deal with Universal Music Sweden . Immediately after the finale, his winning song entered the Swedish charts at number 8. His album of the same name reached number 2 on the album charts. In December 2013 he was on a visit to Ireland guest in The Late Late Show of the television station RTE .
