License plate (United Arab Emirates)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the United Arab Emirates only police and diplomatic license plates are issued uniformly across the country. All other license plates are issued by the relevant emirate . The different systems are similar, but show differences in the design of the signs.

Centrally assigned license plates

Diplomatic license plates are divided into three parts. They show a white hexagon in the middle of the shield, flanked on the right and left by two colored fields. The inscription on the signs is black and bilingual, in the upper half in Arabic script , in the lower half with Latin characters . The left field shows, like the color of both fields, the status of the diplomatic mission, in the right field the country name (UAE or Arabic الإمارات العربيّة المتّحدة). In the middle, the first number encodes the corresponding message. It is followed by a slash and a consecutive number.

Abu Dhabi

Two-line license plates have a red top line. First the name of the emirate appears ( Arabic أبو ظبي), then a serial number and the lettering الامارات / 'The Emirates'. The lower part of the label is white and shows a maximum five-digit serial number. Single-line license plates show the red field with the serial number on the left edge. This is followed by the two Arabic words and the serial number in black and white. The German FE font is used as the font .

In Abu Dhabi license plates with low serial numbers are auctioned. The first sign issued with the number 1 reached the record price of around 10 million euros. The number 5 was previously auctioned for around 3.5 million euros.

Older license plates show a colored field with the inscription on the right edge ا ּ ع ּ م (UAE) and أبو ظبي(Abu Dhabi) and the abbreviation AD The rest of the shield has a white background and black writing. A serial number with a maximum of five digits appears, in Arabic at the top and in European at the bottom. In the case of single lines, the European number is followed by the colored field and the Arabic number concludes.

The color of the field provides information on the progress of the system by coding the hundreds of thousands of blocks of the numbering. A sign with the serial number 1234 and a green field (200,000) is therefore the 201234th award.

Export labels have a blue background and white lettering. Among other things, they show the word EXPORT , the Arabic commentللتصدير / 'For export' as well as the identification of the origin ( ADUAE ). A number with a maximum of five digits can also be seen.

Ajman

The smallest emirate has license plates with black letters on a white background. They show the name of the country and the emirate ( AJMAN orعجمان) in Arabic and Latin script. There is also the letter A or B and a consecutive number in European spelling on the label. In the case of single-line license plates, the letter is on the right-hand edge, followed by the country and emirate name and the serial number. With two lines, the serial number is on the top line. The single letter appears in the middle of the bottom line, framed by the name of the emirate (left) and the country (right).

Dubai

Two-line from Dubai

The number plates in Dubai are white with black letters. Single-line signs show a serial letter on the left, followed by the name of the emirate in Arabic and Latin script. Finally, a consecutive number appears in European digits. Occasionally there is an image of the Burj al Arab in the city of Dubai on the license plates. In the case of two lines, the letter and serial number are in the top line, while the name of the emirate appears below.

The introduction of a new labeling system is currently being planned.

Fujairah

Almost the same number plates are issued in Fujairah as in the Emirate of Dubai. However, on the sign there is the abbreviation of the country's name in Latin script (UAE) and the name of the emirate in Arabicالفجيرة). As in Ajman, one- and two-line license plates are given.

Ras al-Khaimah

In the Emirate of Ra's al-Khaimah, the license plates show the name of the country and the emirate (RAK or رأس الخيمة) in Arabic and Latin script. Here, too, the signs show black letters on a white background. There is also a picture of a watchtower on the shield. Two-line labels show the designations in the top line, and a sequential number appears at the bottom. In the case of single lines, the serial number follows the text.
