License plate (Åland)

The license plate of Åland consist of a maximum of three-digit combination of letters that with ÅL starts, and up to five characters (with three letters: four-digit) numbers in blue text on a white background. The Åland coat of arms is shown in the upper part of the plate , behind it the words "ÅLAND" and then the Åland flag . There is the possibility of a personal identification number .

License plates for trailers ( Swedish : Släpvagn) begin with ÅS followed by a four-digit number combination. Temporary signs are written in red and begin with ÅF . They are manufactured as an adhesive film. License plates for agricultural vehicles show blue text on a yellow background.

Older license plates are based heavily on the Finnish system and also use its font. The old license plates show black letters on a white background and no other symbols. They have the same combinations as the current system, but have a maximum of four digits.

Åland is an autonomous region of Finland , which is why it has its own license plates. As national letters Åland government introduced on 19 March 2010 officially AX one. This abbreviation was occasionally used on vehicles before. VIN stickers also appear in some cases.
