License plate (Andorra)
The current designation system of motor vehicles in Andorra was introduced on September 15 1951st It has been slightly modified several times since then.
Appearance of the license plate
The license plates bear the coat of arms of the principality on the left . They have a white background with black numbers and letters:
- Until about October 1970 there were only up to four digits.
- By November 30, 1989, there were five digits on the newly assigned license plate.
- Since then there have been license plates with one letter and four digits.
- In 1998 the representation of the coat of arms was changed slightly.
- In 2011 the letters AND were added under the coat of arms and the layout was revised.
- On October 30, 2014, a law was passed that introduced the possibility of obtaining a custom license plate . These signs are issued for an additional fee of between 300 and 6,000 euros. Two letters and three digits (300 euros), three letters and two digits (500 euros), four letters and one digit (1,000 euros) and five letters (3,000 euros) or fewer than five letters (6,000 euros) are possible.
At the lower edge PRINCIPAT D'ANDORRA ( Catalan “Principality of Andorra”) is written in black until 1962 and since then in blue .
Diplomatic license plates have a blue background and white text. They begin with the letters CD . For short-term approvals, signs with a red square each on the left and right edge are used. In the left square are the letters MT for matrícula temporal , the right shows the validity. The country's name appears in red letters at the bottom, the coat of arms is missing. For historic vehicles, license plates are issued with black letters on a red background. License plates for test drives have a green background, the inscription and the border are in red. In addition, the label shows PROVA . In addition, special license plates are issued for snowmobiles and other special vehicles.

License plate for motorcycles
Number plates were kept ready for the motorcycles. In the series with one letter and four digits, the motorcycles received z. B. from June 15, 2006 the series from H 9501 to H 9800, from September 6, 2006 the series from J 0501 to J 0700 and from December 11, 2006 the series from J 1501 to J 1700.
