Monegasque license plates have a white background and light blue lettering. The license plates show the center shield of the coat of arms of Monaco on the left edge. Front signs are 290 mm × 110 mm, rear ones are larger (340 mm × 110 mm). In addition, the corresponding year and the inscription PRINCIPAUTE DE MONACO ( French "Principality of Monaco") are notedon the rear number plate. Since 2013, the letters MC have also been attached above or below the year.

The identification basically consists of four characters, either a letter and three digits or four digits. Two-wheelers are made up of two letters and two digits. There is also the option of a custom license plate .

  • Some letters have special meanings. For example, a

  • Electric vehicles have three digits and finally the letter E.
  • Identifiers for collectors have the letter X and three digits.

  • Diplomatic license plates have green letters. They show the letters CD for diplomats and members of government or CC for consuls .
  • Temporary license plates differ from the general system and are based on the French short-term license plates . They show white writing on a dark blue background. The signs begin with two letters followed by two (sometimes handwritten) numbers. The sign ends with the letters WW MC , where MC stands for Monaco.
