King of Alps Trophy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The King of Alps Trophy is an event for motorcycles of all types and ages on public roads. The trophy starts in Vienna and ends in Monte Carlo . It crosses the entire Alpine arc from east to west and leads through six Alpine countries : Germany , Austria , Italy , Switzerland , France and Monaco .

The motorcycle trophy consists of a total of ten stages, which can be driven all at once or over two years with 2 × 5 stages. The King of Alps Trophy starts in mid-June with the Eastern Alpine Cross from Vienna to St. Moritz , followed by the Western Alpine Cross from St. Moritz to Monte Carlo.

In contrast to a racing event, the participants must adhere to the relevant road traffic regulations in all the countries they drive on. The aim is to reach the Mediterranean . Another difference is that up to 200 participants start in the Trophy. In contrast to a motorcycle tour, which usually does not have more than 20 participants.

According to the organizer, the King of Alps Trophy is the largest and longest motorcycle trophy in Europe, with a distance of 3000 kilometers and more than 50 large Alpine passes .

Trophy

The first part of the long distance trophy - the Eastern Alpine Cross - starts in Vienna and leads to St. Moritz in seven days with five stages. Pass roads and alpine roads such as the Timmelsjoch , Großglockner High Alpine Road and Stilfser Joch as well as Dolomite passes and crossings in Veneto are used .

The second part of the Trophy - the Western Alpine Cross - leads from St. Moritz to Monte Carlo. Here, too, five stages have to be covered in seven days. The highest passes in the Western Alps are negotiated on the Routes des Grandes Alpes . Heights of over 2800 meters are reached.

route

Daily routes of around 300 kilometers lead over the highest alpine passes. The motorcycle trophy crosses all important regions of the Alps. Well-known Alpine towns such as  Cortina d'Ampezzo , Mittenwald , Interlaken or Chamonix  are the stage destinations of the event. The trophy ends in Monte Carlo on the Côte d'Azur .

Regions of the Eastern Alps used: Lower Austria , Styria , Carinthia , Friuli , Veneto, Trentino , South Tyrol , East Tyrol , Salzburg , Upper Bavaria , Lombardy , Engadine .

Regions of the Western Alps used: Engadin, Ticino , Wallis , Uri , Friborg , Bernese Alps , Mont Blanc , Aosta Valley , Savoy , Haute Provence , Alpes-Maritimes , Cote d'Azur.

properties

The event is not a race. There is no timekeeping. Nevertheless, it is a demanding task that requires driving skills, endurance and experience. The tour is not suitable for motorcycle beginners. Taking off in small groups Trophy drivers will receive a road book for navigation and route data for a navigation system . Furthermore, luggage transport and an escort vehicle are provided by the organizer.

Participants do not have to buy a ticket themselves at the toll booths for paid passes and Alpine roads. The organizer pays the fees in advance and provides the participants with start numbers with which they can quickly identify themselves at the toll booths.

The Trophy is a pure asphalt event. Nevertheless, there are always poorer stretches, especially on passes in France or Italy with little traffic. Obstacles, bumps and similar dangers are always to be expected. Some very high passes do not have guard rails and must therefore be driven with particular care.

regulate

  • Fairness and sportiness on the go. Whoever needs help will receive it immediately and without being asked.
  • All drivers must be in possession of a valid driver's license at all times during the event .
