Konstantinos "Kostas" Katsouranis ( Greek Κωνσταντίνος "Κώστας" Κατσουράνης , born June 21, 1979 in Patras ) is a former Greek football player .
Career
Konstantinos Katsouranis began his career at Panachaiki , where he was appointed to the first team in 1996 from the U-19s. In 2002 he moved to AEK Athens . In the same year Katsouranis took part in the U-21 European Championship in Switzerland . After three missions, he retired with his team after the preliminary round.
After previously rejected offers from Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach , among others , he moved from AEK to Portugal to Benfica Lisbon in 2006 . In 2008 he took part in the European Championships in Austria and Switzerland.
For the 2009/2010 season Katsouranis returned to Greece to Panathinaikos Athens , where he immediately won the double of the championship and the cup. In early October 2012 he was suspended by Panathinaikos due to a disagreement with coach Jesualdo Ferreira . The contract was terminated on November 6th of the same year. He moved to PAOK Thessaloniki .
After further stints in India and another return to Greece, this time to Atromitos , he moved to Australia in September 2015 for a single game in the FFA Cup to the second division club Heidelberg United , which is in Greek tradition. At the end of the month, Katsouranis declared his career over.
National team
In 2004 Katsouranis was called up in the squad of the Greek national team for the European Championship in Portugal . In the first group game he was substituted on at break and in the remaining matches he was part of the starting line-up. In the game against Spain he saw the yellow card. In the final he prevailed with his team against Portugal and was able to celebrate the title win with his compatriots. A year later he took part in the Confederations Cup in Germany .
On October 15, 2012, he played his 100th international match against Slovenia as part of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup . Katsouranis was the fourth Greek player to reach this mark.
