Kristianstad is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the southern Swedish province of Skåne län and the historic province of Skåne . The main town of the municipality is Kristianstad .
geography
Kristianstad municipality stretches about 30 kilometers along the Hanö Bay from Degeberga to Trolle-Ljungby . The coast north of Åhus is characterized by smaller archipelagos, while the coastline south of Åhus is a dune landscape with sandy beaches.
The municipality extends from the coast about 40 kilometers inland. In the north there are some larger lakes that form the border to the north. The largest lake is Ivösjön . The main town Kristianstad is located in the middle of the municipality by the lake Hammarsjön . The southwest part of the municipality is characterized by Linderödsåsen , a geological eyrie with deeply cut valleys.
The municipality of Kristianstad is an old cultural landscape. In addition to evidence from prehistoric times, such as the dolmen on Dösabacken , there are also numerous medieval churches, such as the church of Vittskövle . The medieval Åhus monastery is only preserved in small remains . The oldest castle, Aose hus (today only ruins) is in Åhus, while one of Sweden's best-preserved Renaissance castles can be found in Vittskövle . Today's Kristianstad municipality emerged from a municipal reform that took place in three steps. First was in 1967? incorporated.
