history

Archaeologically, an early settlement of the place and its surroundings is known. Late Slavic (1000 to 1200) settlements are documented to the north and east.

The place was first mentioned in 1228 as Lutzowe in a document from Duke Barnim I of Pomerania . The Slavic name means "grim people". The current name Lüssow was first mentioned in a document in 1597 .

In the 15th century several families owned shares in Lüssow, including the Owstin and Horn . Berend Wulffradt, who was in the Swedish service, came in 1645 for 50 years in the lien on some of Joachim Kuno von Owstin's goods , which in Lüssow included 18 Landhufen and the Hornschen Hof with 2 Landhufen. His son Hermann von Wolffradt bought the seized goods in 1670 and expanded his stake in Lüssow by acquiring several farms.

The last owner from the male line of the von Wolffradt family was Hermann Wilhelm Carl Gustav von Wolffradt (1816–1841). In his will he ordered the establishment of a Fideikommiss , to whose beneficiary he designated his cousin Achim von Voss (1837-1904). In 1863 he took over the management of the estate under the name of Voss-Wolffradt and had a representative manor house built in 1867/1868 . Until 1945 Lüssow was owned by the von Voss-Wolffradt family. The last owner, Vicco von Voss-Wolffradt, killed his relatives and then himself after a short, hopeless escape from the Red Army .

After the war, numerous refugees and displaced persons came to the place, who could often only be accommodated in a makeshift manner. In 1946 the land reform was carried out. From 1949 new farm houses were built. The local farm , founded in 1953 , was merged into an LPG in 1955 . From 1960 agriculture in Lüssow was fully cooperative. In 1968 a multi-purpose building with a consumer outlet, community office, meeting room and dining room was built. The plant production was connected to the KAP Gützkow in 1973 , the animal production in 1975 to the LPG (T) Gützkow.

After the reunification and reunification , the farms were privatized in 1991. Numerous residents became unemployed. The townscape was redeveloped in various job creation measures as part of the village renewal . The "Traditional Western Pomerania Estate" was also set up in the former estate and LPG buildings. Almost the entire collection from the Agricultural Museum Züssow was moved here and presented. Themed halls such as dairy farming, potato farming, etc., as well as an extensive collection of agricultural technology, including over 40 mostly road-ready tractors, are part of the museum.

The community belonged to the Gützkow office until December 31, 2004 , then to the Züssow office. With effect from January 1, 2010 it was incorporated into Gützkow. The last mayor was Andreas Klut.

In 2013 the castle including the associated land (park and ancillary areas) was sold to an investor.

As of December 31, 2014, Lüssow had 182 residents with a main residence and 6 with a secondary residence.

On December 31, 2015, Lüssow had 172 residents with a main residence and 6 with a secondary residence.
