The Lapland Races are international alpine ski races in Levi in the Finnish province of Lapland .
It was held for the first time in 2000 as a European Cup race (two slaloms and two giant slaloms for men) and in February 2004 with two slaloms for women for the first time as a World Cup race - the first on Finnish soil. After two women's World Cup slaloms were held again in March 2006, there has been an annual women's and men's World Cup slalom since the 2006/2007 season. The date was postponed to mid-November in order to bridge the time between the World Cup kick-off in Sölden at the end of October and the North American races from the end of November. Although Levi is considered snow reliable due to its geographical location around 170 km north of the Arctic Circle , the races had to be canceled in 2007, 2011 and 2015 due to lack of snow. The slaloms are held on the Levi Black slope . It is the most northerly and with a starting height of 438 meters and a target height of 258 meters, it is also the lowest slope in the Alpine Ski World Cup.
