The Vitranc Cup (or Vitranc Cup ) is a traditional event in men's alpine skiing that has been held in Kranjska Gora in Slovenia since 1961 . It is named after Mount Vitranc , on which the races take place. A giant slalom and a slalom are usually held every winter . As early as 1968 , in the second World Cup season, Kranjska Gora appeared on the calendar of the Alpine Ski World Cup for the first time . Until 1980, however, the races for the Vitranc Cup were mostly carried out as part of the European Cup or as an FIS race .

The Kranjska Gora races have been held on the Podkoren slope since the 1983/84 season . This is located south of the district of the same name and is one of the most demanding slopes in the World Cup circuit. The start of the giant slalom is 1,248 meters above sea level , that of the slalom is 1,035 meters. The goal for both disciplines is at an altitude of 836 meters. Despite the relatively low altitude, the Podkoren ski area is very snow reliable. Again and again canceled races were added here in other places, including the women's world cup competitions for the Golden Fox of Maribor.

Ted Ligety from the USA and Marcel Hirscher from Austria are the most successful participants in Kranjska Gora with six wins each; Ligety won six giant slaloms, including a substitute race, Hirscher four giant slaloms and two slaloms. Slalom record winner is the Italian Alberto Tomba with three victories. The Slovene Bojan Križaj also won three slaloms here - but only two of them in the World Cup.
