The Laramate district is located in the Lucanas Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district emerged in the founding years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of 780 km². The 2017 census counted 1721 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2717, in 2007 it was 1902. The seat of the district administration is the 3060 m high village Laramate with 844 inhabitants (as of 2017). Laramate is 90 km northwest of the provincial capital Puquio .
Geographical location
The Laramate district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the northwest of the Lucanas Province. The continental divide runs through the district. The northeast is drained to the north via the Río Caracha . The southwest is drained by the Río Laramate, a left tributary of the Río Vizcas , to the southwest. The Río Vizcas forms the southeastern boundary of the district.
The Laramate district is bordered in the extreme southwest by the Palpa district ( Palpa province ), in the northwest by the Llauta district , in the north by the Sancos district ( Huanca Sancos province ), in the northeast by the San Pedro de Palco district and in the southeast by the district Ocaña .
