The district Layyah is an administrative district in Pakistan in the province of Punjab . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Layyah .
The district has an area of 6,291 km² and according to the 2017 census 1,824,230 inhabitants. The population density is 290 inhabitants / km². The Saraiki language is spoken by the majority in the district .
location
The district is located in the central west of the Punjab Province, which is in the west of Pakistan. The area consists for the most part of desert-like landscape between the Indus and the Chanab .

history
The district was established in 1982 from parts of Mianwali .
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017 the population grew at an annual rate of 3.16% and therefore very quickly. Around 18% of the population live in urban regions and around 82% in rural regions. 925,333 men, 898,817 women and 80 transgender people live in 281,929 households , resulting in a gender ratio of 103 men per 100 women, which is a common surplus for Pakistan.

The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 64% (women: 49%, men: 77%) and is thus slightly above the Punjab province average of 63%.
