Leonhard Felix Hans von Dobschütz (born July 16, 1940 in Herischdorf ) is a German mathematician and business IT specialist . He retired in 2005 as a university lecturer for business administration .

family

He comes from the old Silesian noble family von Dobschütz and is the son of Lieutenant Colonel Günther von Dobschütz (1898–1973) and his second wife Hertha von Prittwitz and Gaffron (1909–1994).

Dobschütz married on August 29, 1970 in Möckmühl ( Heilbronn district , Baden-Württemberg ) the art historian Renate von Moltke (born October 13, 1942 at Gut Wernersdorf, Breslau district , Lower Silesia ), the daughter of the German ambassador Hans-Adolf von Moltke (1884 –1943), landowners in Wernersdorf and Klein-Bresa ( Strehlen district , Lower Silesia), and Countess Davida Yorck von Wartenburg (1900–1989), the older sister of the resistance fighter Count Peter Yorck von Wartenburg (1904–1944).

His grandfather was the Opole superintendent Felix von Dobschütz (1867-1936), his cousin the actor and documentary filmmaker Ulrich von Dobschütz (* 1940).

Life

After graduating from high school in Hamburg (1960) and two years of military service in the German Navy (1962: Oberleutnant zur See d. Res. ), Dobschütz studied mathematics and physics at the Georg-August University in Göttingen from 1962 . In the summer semester of 1962 he became a member of the Corps Saxonia Göttingen . In 1965 he moved to the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and studied mathematics as well as economics . From 1966 he worked there as a research assistant at the Institute for Mathematical Statistics.

Economic activity

After graduating as a mathematician, Dobschütz began his professional career in 1968/69 as a clerk for mathematical programming and methods of business research at the business research institute of the Association of German Ironworkers (VDEh) in Düsseldorf . In 1970 he moved to the engineering office AHT-International in Essen as head of the system planning department and as assistant to the management . Many of his assignments required stays of several months in developing countries in Africa and Asia .

From 1979 to 1983, Dobschütz was head of the economics department and the data processing and documentation department at the consulting firm McKinsey & Company Inc. in Düsseldorf. Parallel to his professional activity, Dobschütz was a lecturer for business informatics in the economics department of the University of Essen from 1975 to 1983 .

University activity

In 1983 he moved to the University of Applied Sciences for Technology and Economics in Reutlingen as a professor (official appointment 1984) for business administration, especially business informatics, at the ESB Business School . The prerequisite for this professorship, however, was a doctorate , which Dobschütz therefore had to make up for in 1984 at the University of Essen. During his time in Reutlingen, Dobschütz was the director of the Institute for European Economic Studies there from 1985 to 1992.

From 1993 to 1996 Dobschütz was on leave of absence in Reutlingen to teach as a visiting professor (long-term lecturer at the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD) at the German-speaking department for business informatics at Marmara University in Istanbul ( Turkey ). The German-speaking departments for business administration and business informatics were only established at Marmara University in 1991 on the basis of a state contract between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Turkish government in cooperation with the University of Lüneburg and the DAAD. The project is financed in partnership between Germany and Turkey. The project sponsors are the Marmara University and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Bonn. Dobschütz took up this visiting professorship in 2001 - after another leave of absence from the Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences - initially as head of the business informatics department. From 2002 to 2006 he was the local project manager with overall responsibility for both German-speaking departments for business administration and business informatics at Istanbul University.

The state of Baden-Württemberg retired Dobschütz on August 31, 2005 after reaching the age of 65. The DAAD let the contract with him expire in summer 2006. He was then employed on a freelance basis in the same position at Marmara University for another year. Then he settled in Berlin as a pensioner .

Since reaching retirement, Dobschütz has been taking on alternating guest lectureships at international universities and colleges in emerging and developing countries on behalf of the DAAD and the SES .

Expert and consultant work

In addition to and after his university career, Dobschütz worked for international companies and government organizations at home and abroad as a freelance expert and management consultant in the field of information management (including the development of management information systems and “make-or-buy” analyzes ).

Others

Dobschütz has been a founding member since 1989, was deputy spokesman until 1993 and from 1997 to 2000 spokesman for the IV-Controlling section of the Gesellschaft für Informatik eV at various training and congress organizers at home and abroad (such as the " Institute for International Research ") He has been a speaker and conference leader since 1993, and is also an author and editor of several specialist books and numerous articles. Since 2009 he has been a founding member and board member of the “Association for the Promotion of the German Evangelical Institute for Classical Studies in the Holy Land ” in Berlin.
