history

The name Letzau (also Lůtsow, Leutsow, Leutsowe ) is of Slavic origin. Until the 10th century the area of Letzau was inhabited by Slavs.

In the 9th and 10th centuries the so-called "Königstraßen" or "Hochstraßen" were built, which led across the mountain ranges away from the rivers. One of these was the Letzauer Hochstraße , which is described by Anton Dollacker and Michel Hardt . It led from Amberg , Schnaittenbach , Luhe , Letzau, Floß , Plößberg to Tirschenreuth .

In the 12th century, goods in Letzau belonged to the Waldsassen monastery . Letzau was mentioned in donations to the Waldsassen monastery in 1218 when Friedrich von Waldthurn acquired estate districts for the villages of Schönfeld and Triebendorf. In the middle of the 13th century Letzau belonged to the rule of the Waldthurnians . 3 Huben in Letzau were owned by the Störenstein sturgeon in the 13th century . They sold their property in Letzau to the Bavarian duke in the second half of the 13th century . In 1261 the brothers Berthold and Ulrich von Waldthurn and Heinrich von Pleystein left Letzau to the Waldsassen monastery.

In 1553 the village of Letzau with 7 farms, 4 estates and 2 desolate farms belonged to the Waldauern zu Waldthurn. In 1553 the forest was named "Die Höll" near Letzau in a contract between Ulrich von Heideck and Willibald von Wirsberg zu Waldthurn.

In statistical descriptions from 1630, 1666, 1743, 1806 Letzau was described as a church village and a municipality in the district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab with 28 properties, 2 Tripflhäuseln and a mill. It belonged to the parish of Waldthurn.

Since 1821 Letzau was an immediate rural community. Oberhöll belonged to the municipality of Letzau. In 1830, the municipality of Remmelberg, to which, in addition to Remmelberg, the village of Schammesrieth belonged, was incorporated into Letzau. The St. Johannes Nepomuk Church in Letzau was a branch church to the parish of Waldthurn . In 1838 the Weiden district court was established in the Upper Palatinate . The municipality of Letzau came from the Vohenstrauß regional court to the Weiden regional court.

As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , Letzau was merged with Edeldorf and Roschau in 1972 to form the newly formed municipality of Theisseil.
