history

The Lintforter Spielverein (short: Lintforter SpV ) was founded in 1919 and merged with the Lintforter Turnverein founded in 1927 to form VfL Lintfort before the end of the war . After the end of the Second World War , a new association was founded in 1945 under the name TuS Lintfort. In 1967 the gymnasts resigned from this and re-established the Lintfort gymnastics club. The 'first' TuS merged in 1971 with the SV Hoerstgen to Spielvereinigung Lintfort . In 1987 the handball players left the SVL and founded TuS Lintfort 45/87 as a new independent club.

Handball

Men's handball

The events in Lintfort handball initially determined the men. As early as 1940 they won the German field handball championship (as Lintforter SpV ). Field handball remained one of Lintfort's strengths even after World War II . Between 1952 and 1961, two German championship titles and three runner-up championships went to the monastery town. The last time they took part in a final round of the German championship in 1962, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals. The successes in indoor handball were not quite as spectacular, but two Lower Rhine state championships in 1953 and 1966 are also here. The men's team currently plays in the regional league.

In the 2004/05 season, the TuS handball players played in the 2nd Bundesliga for the first time and took a respectable eighth place with 26:30 points. A year later 17:35 points were only enough for eleventh place, the final relegation against the south-twelfth TV Mainzlar was clearly lost with 28:35 and 24:29. In the Regionalliga season 2006/07 they started as a top favorite, but cramped, played a weak first half and fell behind. After an increase in performance in the back series, third place jumped out behind master TuS Nettelstedt and vice Bayer Leverkusen . Since both of them refrained from promotion for financial reasons, they returned to the 2nd Bundesliga . Since then - the contract with coach Lothar Schulz had not been extended - Bettina Grenz-Klein ("a TuS veteran", according to the handball week ) has taken over the sporting management again. The first season after being promoted again turned out to be a tremendous game. In the end they saved themselves to tenth place with 17:31 points, and MTV 1860 Altlandsberg (16:32) had to go into the Regionalliga . In the following season, however, the team rose again from the bottom of the table in the Regionalliga West. There they managed to win the championship. After Lintfort played again in the 2nd Bundesliga North in the 2010/11 season , the team had to go back to the third division. In 2016 Lintfort returned to the 2nd Bundesliga.

Soccer

In 1947, the TuS Lintfort footballers missed qualifying for the newly created Lower Rhine regional league after losing 1-0 in the playoff against FC 03 Süchteln . Six years later he was promoted to the state league, which was the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region at the time. In 1956 , the Lintforts were runner-up in their national league team behind the Duisburg FV 08 and qualified for the newly created Niederrhein Association League . Two years later, the TuS footballers secured the championship under coach Felix Zwolanowski . At the West German amateur championship, the Linforters came second behind the Hombrucher FV 09 . In addition, the Lintforters rose to the 2nd Division West.

Against well-known opponents like Bayer 04 Leverkusen or Wuppertaler SV, however , the TuS footballers had no chance and were relegated from the bottom of the table. The low point of the season was a 9-1 defeat at Schwarz-Weiß Essen . In the 1961/62 season , the Lintforters also rose from the association league after the team lost the playoffs against the tied amateurs of Fortuna Düsseldorf and the Rheydter Spielverein . Four years later it was enough for the runner-up in the regional league behind the Duisburg FV 08, before the team had to go into the district class in 1968. Three years later, the rise succeeded.

basketball

In 1958 a basketball department was established. Only one title could be celebrated: in 1961 the men's team became district champions of the Niederrhein basketball district. After the division was dissolved in 1965, the players switched to the much more successful BG Lintfort club in 1954 .
