James F. Moriarty, current US Ambassador to Bangladesh

The list of US ambassadors to Bangladesh provides an overview of the heads of the US diplomatic mission in Bangladesh since 1972. Former East Pakistan gained independence in 1971 and renamed itself Bangladesh in January of the following year. The United States opened its embassy in the capital Dhaka on May 18, 1972 . This was first of Herbert D. Spivack as chargé passed. He was followed in October of the same year with Daniel O. Newberry , another Chargé d'affaires , since Hermann Eilts, who was nominated by the President as the first ambassador, refused the appointment. It was not until April 1974 that Davis Eugene Boster became the first official ambassador to serve in Bangladesh.
