List of United States Ambassadors to Israel
The List of United States Ambassadors to Israel provides an overview of the heads of US diplomatic missions in Israel since 1948. The United States became the first country to de facto recognize the State of Israel on May 14, 1948 - just minutes after he had declared himself independent. De jure recognition took place on January 31, 1949. Shortly thereafter, the United States Embassy in Tel Aviv was opened; James Grover McDonald began work as the first United States Ambassador on March 28, 1949.
