The list of ambassadors of the United States in Djibouti provides an overview of the heads of the US diplomatic mission in Djibouti since 1980. The state in East Africa operated as the French Afar and Issa Territory until 1977 and then gained independence from after a referendum France attained. The United States immediately established diplomatic relations with Djibouti; On July 27, 1977, the embassy was opened in the capital Djibouti , the direction of which was initially held by Walter S.
