This list includes all districts of the Saarland . As a political unit, the Saarland emerged as the "Saar area" in 1920 as a result of the Treaty of Versailles . After the Second World War , the area of ​​today's Saarland belonged to the French occupation zone until 1947. In 1947 the area became an autonomous region under the name "Saarland" within the boundaries still valid today.
