The district of Llama is located in the province of Chota in the region of Cajamarca in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on April 18, 1835. It has an area of ​​494.94 km². The 2017 census counted 7,075 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 8,739, in 2007 8,102. The district administration is located in the village of Llama at an altitude of 2100  m with 1078 inhabitants (as of 2017). Llama is located about 52 km west of the provincial capital Chota .

Geographical location

The Llama district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the southwest of the Chota province. The Río Chancay and its right tributary Río Maichil drain the area to the southwest.

The district of Llama borders in the southwest on the districts of Oyotún and Chongoyape (both in the province of Chiclayo ), in the northwest on the districts Miracosta and San Juan de Licupis , in the northeast on the districts of Querocoto and Huambos , in the east on the district of Sexi ( province Santa Cruz ) and in the south to the Catache district (also in the Santa Cruz province).
