Lorenzo Williams (born November 8, 1984 in Lake Village , Arkansas ) is an American basketball player . He plays as a so-called " Combo Guard " in the backcourt . After studying in his home country, Williams began a professional career that initially took him to Germany in 2008 for the regional league team BC Weißenhorn. Williams then played first-class in Slovakia , where he was able to become champions in 2008, as well as in Hungary , Ukraine and Latvia , where he was able to become champions in 2014. After playing first class in Germany for the Gießen 46ers in the 2009/10 basketball Bundesliga , he returned to Germany for the 2014/15 basketball league and played there for the Eisbären Bremerhaven.

Career

Williams graduated from school in Killeen , Texas, and then went to Rice University to study , where he played for the Owls college team from 2003, initially in the NCAA's Western Athletic Conference (WAC) . The Owls, who were not represented in the national NCAA finals since 1970 , could qualify for the National Invitation Tournament in 2004 and 2005 , in which they were eliminated in the first round. Then the Owls moved to the Conference USA , in which they could not improve their season balance and missed national finals. While Williams' teammate Morris Almond was then selected in the entry draft of the highest endowed professional league NBA , Williams had difficulty finding a professional engagement. In November 2007 he was selected in the draft of the NBA Development League (D-League) by the Anaheim Arsenal , but he finally decided to start his professional career in Europe and did not play a championship game in the D-League.

In January 2008 Williams signed his first professional engagement with the club from Weißenhorn in the regional league. Just a few weeks later he moved to Slovakia in March 2008 to the first division club from Pezinok . With this club he won the Slovak championship at the end of the season. In the following season, the defending champion lost the decisive fifth game in the final series against the club from Nitra to Williams' compatriot Eugene Lawrence . For the basketball Bundesliga 2009/10 Williams returned to Germany, where he played in the top division for the LTi 46ers from Gießen this time. The Giessen, who had only kept the class last year by purchasing a wild card , achieved 14th place in the table with ten victories of the season and direct sporting relegation.

For the 2010/11 season Williams moved to Hungary, where he played for Zalakerámia ZTE KK from Zalaegerszeg . Before the end of the season he moved as the best assists in the Hungarian league at that time in February 2011 in the Basketball Superliga Ukraine to Chimik in Yuschne , who finished penultimate after a weak season with 16 wins in 48 games. Williams then returned to the Hungarian league and played for Atomerőmű SE from Paks . In his second season for this club you reached the main round runner-up in the play-off semi- final series against defending champion Szolnoki Olaj KK , who had played in the Adriatic ABA league instead of the main round in Hungary . This team was defeated in the fifth and decisive game of the series just after extra time. Then Williams got an engagement with the Latvian runner-up from Ventspils for the 2013/14 season . As the defending champion of the Baltic Basketball League you failed somewhat surprisingly in the quarter-finals against the later title winner KK Šiauliai . In the national championship, however, defending champion VEF Riga was clearly defeated with four wins in five games of the final series.

Williams was then brought back to Germany by the Eisbären from Bremerhaven for the 2014/15 basketball Bundesliga . After a bad start to the season, coach Calvin Oldham was dismissed and replaced by Muli Katzurin . After further commitments, the Eisbären managed to stay in the league in 15th and fourth from last place. This was repeated in the following basketball league in 2015/16 , when coach Katzurin was replaced by his assistant Chris Harris after a bad start to the season and finally by Sebastian Machowski at the end of the season . For the polar bears it was only enough to place 15th. Williams then left the club and moved again to the Baltic States to the Lietkabelis club from Panevėžys in Lithuania , which also starts with a wildcard in the international club competition EuroCup 2016/17 . For the Lithuanians, Williams plays with the experienced twin brothers Darjuš and Kšyštof Lavrinovič and Mindaugas Lukauskis .
