Luigi Toscano

Luigi Toscano (born May 9, 1972 in Mainz ) is an Italian - German photographer and filmmaker .

Life

Luigi Toscano was born in 1972 as the eldest of seven children of Italian guest workers . After working as a roofer , doorman and window cleaner , he embarked on an artistic career. He taught himself the technical and craft skills of a photographer. In his early work he mainly concentrated on viewing and depicting motionless scenes and objects. Meanwhile, the human being is the focus of his pictures. Luigi Toscano has also worked as a filmmaker since 2006. As with photography, he developed the technology himself. With his company Luigi Toscano Production he provides services in the field of film, video and photography.

Exhibitions of his work took place in Mannheim, New York, Washington, Hanover, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Esslingen, Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Kiev and Dnipro.

His exhibition "Against Forgetting" with photos of survivors of the Nazi regime was shown at the Burgring in Vienna from May 6 to 31, 2019 and damaged three times by unknown perpetrators. After the third attack, several volunteer organizations organized vigils to protect the exhibition.

Toscano lives and works in Mannheim .
