The 11th major league season in Major League Soccer began with the regular season on April 1, 2006 and ended with the MLS Cup 2006 on November 12, 2006 in Pizza Hut Park in Frisco , Texas . The winners of the MLS Cup were the Houston Dynamo, who played their first season in the MLS.
Changes compared to the 2005 season
- The MetroStars from New York City were bought by the Austrian company Red Bull and re-established as New York Red Bulls .
- The San José Earthquakes moved to Houston after financial problems in San José (California) . The new team is called Houston Dynamo .
