Maja Mihalinec (born December 17, 1989 in Mozirje , Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian sprinter .
Athletic career
Maja Mihalinec gained her first international experience in 2005 at the Youth World Championships in Marrakech , where she was eliminated in the 100-meter run with 12.03 s in the first round and over 200 meters to the semifinals, in which she finished with 24.62 s retired. The following year she was disqualified at the Junior World Championships in Beijing over 200 meters and also retired over 100 meters with 12.08 s and with the Slovenian 4 x 100 meter relay with 46.09 s in the first round. In 2007 she reached the semi-finals at the European Junior Championships in Hengelo over 100 meters and was eliminated there with 11.89 s, as well as at the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz the following year with 11.81 s and then completed a degree in the United States.
In 2014 she qualified for the European Championships in Zurich , where she was eliminated in the first round over 100 meters with 11.52 seconds. The following year she took part in the 60-meter run at the European Indoor Championships in Prague , where she made it to the semifinals, in which she was eliminated with 7.29 seconds. In addition, she took part in the World Championships in Beijing for the first time in the summer and reached the semi-finals there over 200 meters and was eliminated there with 23.04 s, while she was eliminated over 100 meters with 11.42 s in the first round . At the 2016 World Indoor Athletics Championships in Portland , she was eliminated in the semifinals with 7.34 s and at the European Championships in Amsterdam she reached the semifinals over 100 and 200 meters, where she was eliminated with 11.55 s and 23.17 s. She also qualified over 200 meters for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she was eliminated in the preliminary round with 23.38 seconds . In the following two years Mihalinec hardly competed and only returned to top-class sport in 2019.
At the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow she came in sixth place in 7.21 s and then she won the European Games in Minsk in 11.36 s over 100 meters. She also qualified over 100 and 200 meters again for the World Championships in Doha , where she was eliminated over 100 meters with 11.32 s in the lead , while she reached the semi-finals over 200 meters and was eliminated there with 22.81 s. At the end of October, she won the World Military Games in Wuhan in 23.15 seconds.
From 2014 to 2016 and 2020 , Mihalinec was the Slovenian champion in the 100-meter run as well as the 200-meter run in 2016, 2019 and 2020, and in 2020 she also won the 4-by-100-meter relay. In addition, she secured the indoor title in the 60-meter run from 2014 to 2016 and 2019. She graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha with a degree in communication sciences and a social sciences degree from the University of Ljubljana .
