Painted
Malte is a male given name of German-Danish origin and is probably a short form of the Old High German name Helmolt or Helmold , which is no longer in use today . Helmolt is derived from the Old High German terms' helm '(helmet, (covering), protection) and' waltan '(rule, rule) together, so that the name Malte means something like ' ruling protector 'or' protector and ruler '.
The abbreviation of the name Helmolt probably took place in the Middle Ages. There is evidence that it has been used in Denmark since the 12th century and soon found its way into Sweden , to which the province belonged in later times, via Scania . Today the name is also common in northern Germany . In Danish it is sometimes found as Malthe or in the older form Molte .
