Archbishop Maroun Elias Nimeh Lahham ( Arabic مارون لحّام, DMG Mārūn Laḥḥām ; * July 20, 1948 in Irbid , Jordan ) is auxiliary bishop emeritus in the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan.

Life

The Catholic Palestinian Maroun Lahham studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at the Latin Seminary in Beit Jala . He was ordained a priest in Jerusalem on June 24, 1972 by Giacomo Giuseppe Beltritti , the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. He was vicar in Misdar, a district of Amman (1972/75, 1979/81), Fuheis , Jordan (1975/76) and pastor in Madaba , Jordan (1981/88). From 1976 to 1979 Maroun Lahham was a Fidei Donum priest in Dubai . There, together with Giovanni Bernardo Gremoli OFMCap , the Apostolic Vicar of Arabia , he looked after the various- lingual Christian communities.

After a doctorate in pastoral theology and catechesis 1988-1992 at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome , he was to work on adult catechesis for Dr. theol. PhD . From 1992 to 1994 he was General Director of the Schools of the Latin Patriarchate and in 1994 became the Regens of the Latin Seminary in Beit Jala. He also taught pastoral theology at the seminary of Beit Jala and in Cremisan , the seminary of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Palestine in Bethlehem , and at the seminary of the Custody of the Holy Land in Jerusalem and in 1996 at the University of Bethlehem .

On September 8, 2005 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Bishop of Tunis. He received the episcopal ordination on October 2nd, 2005 in the parish church of Beit Jala by the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Archbishop Michel Sabbah . Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Delegate in Jerusalem, Archbishop Pietro Sambi , and the Coadjutor of the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Archbishop Fouad Twal .

Maroun Lahham was founded on September 23, 2009 by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed member of the Second Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for Africa (October 4 to 25, 2009). On May 22, 2010, the diocese of Tunis was raised to an archbishopric, with Maroun Lahham as the first archbishop.

On January 19, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. the Titular Archbishop of Medaba while retaining the personal title of archbishop and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan . Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on February 4, 2017.

Lahham speaks Arabic, French, English and Italian.
